Latimer is best known as a powerful preacher, and he was a favorite preacher in the royal court under Edward VI. Hugh Latimer. Hugh Latimer was the outstanding English preacher of the Reformation. His sermons against ecclesiastical abuses led to several trials for heresy, but no proof could be established against his orthodoxy.
Latimer was little interested in the reﬁnements of doctrine; his zeal was concentrated on the moral life of Christian clergy. Hugh Latimer was famous as a preacher. He was Bishop of Worcester (pronounced WOOS-ter) in the time of King Henry, but resigned in protest against the King's refusal to allow the Protestant reforms that Latimer desired. Latimer's sermons speak little of doctrine; he preferred to urge men to upright living and devoutness in prayer.
